Tours for Accompanying Persons

This year, two half-day sightseeing tours are included in the accompanying person´s registration package. IFLA and the National Committee are delighted to offer both tours for the accompanying person´s programme. Tickets for the half-day guided tours can be reserved during the online registration process or when registering on-site at the congress. Please note that these tours are subject to availability and require a minimum amount of confirmed bookings in order to take place.

1. Walking Tour of Downtown Columbus

Date: Monday, 15 August 2016
Time: 09:00 – 13:00
Meeting Point: Experience Columbus booth in the Registration Area

Along this walking tour we will view historical and cultural buildings and sites, including the world-class 7-acre park known as Columbus Commons where you can enjoy a carousel ride in Downtown Columbus. We will stroll along the Scioto Mile Park where we can participate in the interactive water fountains along this recently completed 145 acre park, enjoying the beauty of over 50,000 plants and 800 trees. We will end at the State of Ohio’s Capitol Building where President Abraham Lincoln presented campaign speeches on his way to becoming president in 1861, then later enjoy lunch on your own inside the Capitol before returning to the Convention Center.

2. Columbus Zoo and Aquarium – From a small zoo in the 1930s to “America´s Premier Zoo” today

World-renowned Zoo Director Jack Hanna invites us to enjoy the Columbus Zoo and Aquarium. From a small zoo in the 1930’s to “America’s Premier Zoo” today, we will ride on a dedicated bus from downtown to the Zoo, and enjoy three hours getting close to gorillas, manatees, reindeer, snakes, pet a stingray, and we can even feed a giraffe! Lots of food choices on your own throughout the zoo before returning to the Convention Center.
