All tours will depart from the Columbus Convention Center. Please be at the departure location no later than 30 minutes prior to the departure.

1. A Tour of Southwestern Ohio

 Saturday, 20 August 2016. Depart 8:00 in the morning for Dayton, Ohio to visit the Wright Cycle Company, where Orville and Wilbur Wright became actively interested in the idea of flying, followed by a visit to the National Museum of the U.S. Air Force, the largest facility of this type in the world, which traces the history of flight from early ballooning to space travel. Lunch on your own in the Museum Cafe.  Next, travel to Cincinnati to the American Sign Museum, a trip down memory lane of historic signs and exhibits.  Following our check-in at the Holiday Inn Riverfront in Covington, KY, we will enjoy a narrated two hour dinner cruise on one of the Queen City Riverboats, which includes a climate-controlled inside area as well as a canopy open-air upper deck for viewing. End the evening by 21:00 at the Hotel.

Sunday, 21 August 2016. Breakfast at the hotel. A driving tour of Cincinnati starts our day with an included lunch at the Hofbrauhaus Restaurant to enjoy the atmosphere of the Cincinnati area’s German heritage. Leaving Cincinnati, we will next visit Ft. Ancient, Ohio’s premier museum of Native American history, a World Heritage Site. Finally, dinnertime away from the group in Lebanon, with a variety of restaurants from which to choose. We will arrive back in Columbus at approximately 20:15.

2. A Trip through Amish Country

Saturday, 20 August 2016. Depart at 08:00 in the morning. Meet our step-on guide as we arrive for a back roads tour of Amish country with stops at an Amish-owned basket maker, Amish Hardware store, hand-dip Buckeye candy in an Amish home, as well as hand-dip your own candle at an Amish-owned candle maker. Lunch on your own as you walk the area. Dinner is provided at a private Amish home. Our overnight stay will be at the Berlin Grande Hotel.

Sunday, 21 August 2016. Breakfast at the hotel. We will board the bus to Dover, Ohio, where we will visit the Warther Museum, dedicated to Ernest “Mooney” Warther, the world’s master carver, and the Button House where Freida, Mooney’s wife, collected and mounted over 73.000 buttons. Carving was just a hobby for Mooney; to make a living, he handcrafted kitchen cutlery. At the end of the tour we will visit the knife factory to see how they manufacture their knives. Gift shop attached. Lunch on your own nearby. We will arrive back in Columbus at about 16:00.

3. Feel like a Kid again

Saturday, 20 August  2016. Depart at 08:00 in the morning for Sandusky to tour the Maritime Museum to learn of the area’s marine history. A nautical gift shop is nearby. Lunch on own locally.  Then on to Cedar Point, voted many, many times as the best amusement park in the world where you can choose to ride any of the 17 roller coasters, including one that reaches speeds of 125 mph. Not a daredevil?  There are over 70 other rides and musical shows for all ages. Dinner of some type at the park is included. An 20:00 check-in at a Fremont Hotel is included.

Sunday, 21 August 2016. Breakfast at the hotel. Then we will hop on the Jet Express across Lake Erie to Put-in-Bay, one of eight islands we will pass on this narrated 22 minute cruise. Put-in-Bay has a variety of restaurants, stores, and attractions where we can choose to take a narrated tram ride, or rent a bike or golf cart, to explore the area. One of the most visited places is the Perry Peace Memorial (War of 1812), which offers views of Canada from the top on a clear day. Lunch is on your own at a variety of restaurants. The return bus trip includes a short rest/dinner stop on your own. We will arrive in Columbus at about 20:00.
