The Mayor of Columbus Invites You

The City of Columbus is thrilled to be host to the 82nd IFLA World Library and Information Congress General Conference and Assembly 13 – 19 August 2016. As the first United States city to host the Congress since 2001, we are honored to welcome you to our community and showcase our ideas and excitement. We also want to extend our gratitude to IFLA for selecting Columbus as the next host for this stimulating gathering that will attract brilliant minds from across the globe.

Home to world class library institutions like the Columbus Metropolitan Library system, the Ohio State University Libraries, and OCLC, a worldwide library cooperative, Columbus is the ideal location to host a meeting of the world’s most curious minds in the library science profession. With an engrained culture that is smart and open, conference attendees will appreciate the innovations in research by local institutions including Chemical Abstracts and the Battelle Memorial Institute.

Columbus is a thriving, vibrant community with a dynamic business climate, a commitment to diversity, exciting festivals, sports and cultural events and a lively arts and entertainment scene. Each year, an increasing number of visitors from around the country and the world come to our city to meet, compete, trade and enjoy what Columbus has to offer.

From the lively Arena District, the beautiful Franklin Park Conservatory, to our #1 zoo, the campus of the Ohio State University and the shops and restaurants of our many eclectic urban neighborhoods, Columbus offers something special for everyone. There is no doubt in my mind that you will find something to love about our city during your visit.

Although Columbus will offer an extraordinary experience in 2016, we are even more thrilled about the opportunity to engage with our peers from across the globe to share and discuss best practices in the profession.

On behalf of the entire City of Columbus, we look forward to welcoming you in 2016!

Sincerely,

Michael B. Coleman

Mayor of Columbus
