"Future of Libraries: What will content and services be in 2030?"

The Latin American and Caribbean Section of IFLA is organizing this satellite meeting before the World Library and Information Congress with the generous support of OCLC. The main Satellite Meeting goal is to discuss the future of libraries (political, economic and social) and its impact on collection development and services provision to users in any region of the world.
We welcome research papers, case studies and articles with innovative and practical perspectives on current and forward looking approaches to the future of libraries and its impact on collections and services to users. The sub-topics (not exhaustive) are:
- Year 2030: How might Latin American and Caribbean libraries be?
- Future of library budgets
- Role of libraries in communities of the future
- Will library collections exist?
- What are the information services will libraries provide in 2030
- Future information needs of library users
- Change management/innovation in regard to library collections and services
- Changing information needs and innovative information services to education
How to submit a proposal
Interested persons are invited to submit a proposal for a paper and presentation of about 30 minutes on the topics listed above, as well as poster presentations.
The conference presentations will have to be given in Spanish or English (funding for simultaneous interpreting has been requested). Proposals may be sent in both languages.
The initial proposal should be not more than 500 words long (1 page), be submitted in electronic format, and be accompanied by a brief bio of the author(s), 150 words maximum. Paper length will between 10 to 15 pages, and posters standard size will be 24″ x 36″ (60 X 90 cm).
First phase includes evaluation of abstracts, and second includes evaluation of full papers.
The evaluation will be based on scientific quality (pertinence, theoretical base, methodology, originality) and on the competencies of the candidate(s) based upon: quality/quantity of their publications/communications.
The following schedule will be applied:
5 December 2015 15 February 2016 Deadline to submit abstract proposals
29 February 2016: Notification of abstract acceptance
15 April 2016: Deadline for authors to submit the paper
30 April 2016: Notification of paper acceptance
30 May 2016: Final paper submission
11 August 2016: Meeting
Spring 2017: Publication of the proceedings (Funding is being sought)

Maximum group size: 100 participants, registration required
Suggested donation: $40 dollars for LAC IFLA Grant Fund
Registration: 8:00 -900 9:00 – 17:00 hours
All proposals must be received by 15 February 2016.
At least one of the paper’s authors must be present to deliver a summary of the paper during the program of the Satellite Meeting.
Authors of accepted papers must complete the IFLA Authors’ Permission Form.
All expenses for attending the satellite meeting (eg. travel, accommodation, etc.) are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA.
