Call for Papers: Satellite Meetings

Preservation and Conservation Section with Strategic Programme on Preservation & Conservation (PAC)

Theme:

"Up Up and Away: High density storage for library materials "

[Deadline extended to: 29 February 2016]

Date

10-11 August 2016

Venue

Washington DC, United States

Libraries resolve their space issues by developing and building high density storage with environmentally sound and secure storage for library materials. Digital repositories provide the same secure and long term storage for digital collections. The Library of Congress (LOC)) provides sound environments for library and archive materials from paper to audio visual materials including film, tape, paper, photographs and digital files. Library of Congress will host this Satellite meeting for IFLA 2016.

The Preservation and Conservation Section and the Strategic Programme on Preservation and Conservation (PAC) invite papers from different fields of expertise about high density storage or physical and digital media to provide long term preservationally sound storage. Topics for safe storage could include: disaster mitigation, A/V storage, digital repositories, mixed storage of materials, and storage for small and underfunded institutions, shared storage across institutions. The contributions should provide practical experiences and examples based on current standards. On a broad scale such papers could reference standards and how they were applied, experience and training for staff working in high density storage, retrieval and input of items into storage; workflow processes for safely processing collection items into storage and how retrieval is accomplished. Renovation of older buildings to provide higher density storage and to maximize equipment efficiency could also be addressed.

Presenters will have 20 minutes to deliver their preservation, followed by time for questions and discussion.
