Call for Papers: Open Sessions
Religions: Libraries and Dialogue Special Interest Group
"Connections. Collaboration. Community."
Under the theme of the next WLIC: “Connections. Collaboration. Community.” the IFLA Religions: Libraries and Dialogue Special Interest Group (RELINDIAL) opens its session conference. It will be organized around the three main themes of the IFLA Congress. We aim to show that the common point of these three themes, is the human being, the technical aspects are important, but the technic is here to help humankind. It is more than ever necessary to place humankind at the centre of our concerns and to develop tools and services to his benefit.
- Human connections
- Does your library play a role in connecting people? About religious themes or other? Do you use religious sources in your institution to raise public awareness about interreligious issues?
- Have you feedbacks about special religious events you organized (conferences, exhibitions, workshops)?
- Tools to serve connections:
- Electronic connections (catalogues, databases, digital libraries, web 2.0): What is the outcome of providing these tools?
- Semantic Web: how is the religious vocabulary reflected in or influenced by technology and in particular, in the semantic web? Of the tools that are available today, for example VIAF, what kind of contributions do they make to interreligious publicity and understanding?
- Human collaboration
- Does your library cooperate with local institutions to promote interfaith dialogue? Is it involved in local initiatives?
- Institutional collaboration
- Do you collaborate with different professional areas: teachers, IT professional, libraries?
- Have you experimented in collaborating with other institutions in building tools for religious libraries (digital libraries, open access, access to content built through a collaboration between different libraries)?
- Library associations
- Have you engaged in promoting interreligious dialogue in a Library association?
- Have you built an association of religious libraries? If so, are there any concerns which have arisen?
- Educational, Academic community
- Is your library involved in the educational, academic community? Have you partnerships with religious schools. How and what are the consequences for the library?
- Is your institution networking on interreligious or intercultural themes? How? With other libraries? Other kind of partners?
All the colleagues and professional who wish to share their experiences in the various aspects outlined above are invited to send a proposal by 15 February 2016.
The session will have a time slot of two hours for lively discussions and sharing of information.

To submit a written proposal, please give your name, your Institutional membership, your e-mail address, the title of the paper and an abstract of at least 200 words.

|20 February 2016:||Acknowledgement of receipt, with provisional acceptance/rejection,|
|27 February 2016:||Submission of four page extended outline of paper,|
|15 March 2016:||Notification of acceptance,|
|8 May 2016:||Submission of completed draft paper,|
|26 June 2016:||Submission of final paper,|
|17 July 2016:||Submission of Conference Presentation PowerPoint.|
At least one of the paper’s authors must be present to deliver a summary of the paper during the program in Columbus, Ohio. Abstracts should only be submitted with the understanding that the expenses of attending the conference will be the responsibility of the author(s)/presenter(s) of accepted papers.
Authors of accepted papers must complete the IFLA Authors’ Permission Form.
All expenses, including registration for the conference, travel, accommodation etc., are the responsibility of the authors/presenters. No financial support can be provided by IFLA, but a special invitation letter can be issued to authors.
